While I was looking for a wedding party, once I got lost in Dahkla, the refugee camp which lies in the heart of the Algerian desert, 800 km from the nearest city, and 160 Km from Tindouf, the small “capital” of the Sahrawi refugee people.
A family helped me out, gave me food and sheltered me for the night. I already knew what they told me: that they have been living in the desert for 31 year, enduring the harshest climate conditions, the extreme temperatures, the lack of basic services – healthcare, water, education. And that all they want is just one thing : to go home….
